Who are we?
“Apricity” – the warmth of the sun in winter.
Apricity Canines is a small hobby kennel located in rural Southern Indiana, just outside Louisville, KY. I grew up in the dog world, training and trialing my first dog at the age of 10. Now a practicing veterinarian, my dogs are my life outside of work and I spend all my free time training, trialing, and traveling with my dogs!
During my adult life working in veterinary medicine and training and competing with my personal dogs, I have been lucky enough to discover the breed that speak to my soul. Thus Apricity Icelandics was born; I am so thrilled to share our personal rays of sunshine with you.

Our Vision
We are devoted to the Icelandic Sheepdog breed and aim to produce quality dogs that are stable in health and temperament, adhere to the breed standard, and develop into the ideal active family companion and sport dog. Of utmost importance to us will always be the preservation of this historic breed and its sunny disposition that’s guaranteed to brighten up any day!
We strive to give each and every puppy the best start we can. This will include extensive pedigree analysis to create the best possible pairings, early life puppy protocols like Puppy Culture and Avidog, matching puppies to each family based on thorough temperament testing and application review, and lifelong support for our new puppy families.
Our Focus: The Pillars of our Program
Health
Health is a top priority with our breeding program. All breeding dogs are fully health-tested and each puppy is thoroughly vet-checked and comes with a health guarantee. We stand-by our puppies and are here as a resource for their entire lives.
Temperament
Temperament is the most important aspect of the bond we have with our dogs. Each litter we produce comes from parents who share the ever happy and social attitude that is the hallmark of the Icelandic Sheepdog. Puppies are matched to their new families based off their individual personality to help insure the most ideal puppy for each family.
Type
Breed type is what allows you to look at a dog and KNOW what breed it is. An icie should look like an icie! The prick ears, expressive eyes, rectangular body, thick coat, and high set tail are all just a few hallmarks of the breed that we aim to preserve.
Structure
Form begets function. Health, working ability, and general hardiness all start with a strong and well-built dog. We are sure to evaluate each breeding dogs’ structure carefully to know their strengths and weaknesses. A critical evaluation of each breeding dog is what allows us to create the best matches that hope to magnify each dog’s individual assets and minimize their flaws.
