Puppy Information

Specializing in personal rays of sunshine.

What can I expect with an Apricity puppy?

  • A quality Icelandic Sheepdog that is AKC registered and from health-tested parents. Full registration (breeding and show rights) will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

  • A puppy that is matched directly to you based on your goals and the puppy’s individual personality. This will be an open conversation where you are free to discuss your desires or even who your favorite puppy may be, but expect us to steer you toward the puppy in the litter who seems to best suit your needs. When you are matched to your puppy you will get a written explanation of his/her personality and why we feel it is the right puppy for you.

  • A puppy kit with basic necessities, paperwork/breed information, puppy food, new toys, and a blanket/toy that smells like puppy’s first home.

  • A LIFETIME of support. We will always be part of your Icelandic Sheepdog family and will love as many updates as you are willing to give! We also want to hear from you if you are having any issues so that we can help you address them or direct you to resources that may be of help.

  • And don’t forget… your own personal ray of sunshine!

What do we expect from our puppy buyers?

  • Do your research. Read through our website, talk to other Icelandic Sheepdog owners, and meet some dogs! We want to be sure that this is the breed that speaks to your heart. Icelandic Sheepdogs are an historic, special breed. They have MANY great and appealing qualities but also some quirks that can present a challenge. It’s important to be prepared for common issues that can arise so you are ready to take the “bad” with the good!

  • We expect you to provide adequate socialization, continue exposure work, and keep your puppy up-to-date on routine veterinary care. All of our puppies need to attend at least one session of a group training class in order to maintain their temperament guarantee, but ideally you would continue on beyond routine puppy classes into maturity to help your dog grow into a well-rounded individual with basic manners and skills.

  • Each puppy/adult Icelandic Sheepdog should have the minimum amount of exercise and mental stimulation that meets his/her needs. This can be different for every dog and needs to be adjusted based on the individual. An Icelandic Sheepdog who is NOT having his/her needs met may display troublesome behaviors like incessant barking, destructive behavior, and separation anxiety. Training classes, outdoor exploration, enrichment/puzzle toys, and dog sports are all great ways to keep your Icelandic Sheepdog happy and content.

  • Updates! We request updates yearly at MINIMUM, but we would love to hear from you anytime! Send us pictures/emails, friend us on Facebook, send us your Instagram. Stay in touch and always reach out to keep us posted on what you’re doing and the fun you’re having.
